Which fire security system is best for you?

Whether it’s their heat or smoke which causes the damage, fires pose serious risks to the health of yourself, anyone you’re responsible for in your premises, and also to your property. That’s why early detection and warning play a crucial role in the safe and swift evacuation of anyone in harms way. In order to achieve this, we offer a great variety of completely reliable fire security systems, with our skilled engineers carrying out risk assessments to identify the best solution for your property. Here’s some information on a few of the systems we regularly recommend to our customers.

Smoke detectors

Smoke detectors and alarms are by far the most common system. While there a few different types, they all perform the same function; detecting the presence of smoke or fire and alerting the occupants of the building by sounding a loud alarm. A dual-sensor smoke alarm is recommended for maximum protection from both fast flaming and slow smouldering fires.

By law, all workplaces must have a functional smoke detection system fitted. While both battery-powered and mains-powered systems are available, the smoke alarm system in any new premises must be connected to the mains.

Sounders and beacons

While detectors may feature a built-in alarm, the only purpose of sounders and beacons is to alert people to the fire and create a sense of urgency to evacuate the building. Like an alarm, a sounder will usually produce a high-pitched sound, while the beacon will normally flash red to provide a visual warning. The two systems can be combined into a single device which will either be fitted to a wall or ceiling.

Fire panels

Mainly used in commercial buildings, the main purpose of a fire panel is to activate a quick emergency response if there’s a fire, giving everyone the best possible chance to get out safely. Depending on the particular panel used, this response could include a number of different aspects.

There’s multiple types of fire panels and some will come with more capabilities than others. A very basic system may only set off the alarm, while others may automatically call the fire department or even set off the sprinklers if that particular building has them.

In addition to those mentioned, we offer a number of other fire security systems. We’re more than happy to have a chat to discuss which might be best for you, so don’t hesitate to call us on 0345 3703 999. Our trained fire system engineers will then carry out an assessment to identify the areas of your property most at risk from fire, ensuring we can offer the best course of action from there.
